The Fresh Air Fund is in need of host families for this summer. Host families are volunteers who open their hearts and homes to children from the city to give a fresh air experience to disadvantaged children from the inner-city. Even if you can't host a child yourself, just posting a mention of this program on your site or as a tweet would be helpful to spread the word. so as a small business owner I spend a great amount of time getting the business seen as many places as possible; directories, websites, twitter, facebook, blah blah.... and hope that it's all good stuff that people are seeing, and trying to be wise with my few marketing dollars!

as a narcissist I check these places regularly to see if people are saying nice things about the business (ok so I may check to see if my name made the comment too.... hey I warned you, little narcissistic) , and make sure that people are able to find the nice things people are saying about me... I mean Trim Time. (No I haven't been drinking, it's been a long week)

anywhoo.... while I was fact checking tonight, I ran accross, a new review I hadn't seen before, it was left at yelp.com and written by Lincoln and Booth's mom (pic below, of them.... not their mom.... that would be weird if I just randomly had a picture of her- that would make me kinda stalkerish, besides if i WAS stalkerish i wouldn't tell you).

so it officially is my favorite review ever, it has all the right mix of compliments, compliments, do gooding, and compliments. It's.... well just read it yourself:

I feel as though I have written a review of Trim Time before - but I guess not. Better late than never.

Jennifer rocks. No, really. She, and the rest of her staff at Trim Time are awesome.

I like my dogs groomed a certain way - instructions for which I gave Jennifer on our very first visit when the pups were mere weeks old. They are now three years old, and they are always groomed impeccably on every visit, with no reminders of my expectations. (Apparently, Jennifer is either a genius memory savant, or they write it down... I think it is probably the former.) My husband can take the dogs in and not worry that I won't be happy with the results.

Not only is Trim Time awesome, but they give back too. Jennifer has an animal rights blog, and at least twice over the time we have been going there has had charity events (One is coming up on Friday July 3rd!)

If you are looking for a groomer, and you live in the greater Southwestern United States, Jennifer is your woman. I think I would take the dogs to her even if I lived in San Diego. Seriously, she is that good.

I have been asked several times what I think about the new nail trimmer on the market.
I've seen the infomercials, and yes it does look interesting and easy... on the commercial (but isn't that what commercials are made for?)

essentially it's just a dremel, with a cute white case and a clear safety shield to make you feel more comfortable.

This is why I can't sell anything (I would crack up laughing before I could get it out), this is so over the top how could you not want to love it?

I have one customer that told me she bought one (she has since thrown it away), she said that it took so long to file one nail and the dog completely freaked out because of the vibration. It took me less time and less stress on the dog to cut all the dog's nails at the shop in a few minutes than, she said, it took her to do one nail with this product.

The product makes several claims "that it won't crack, splinter or break the nails", so- neither should anything else. Traditional nail trimmers cut the nail, they also shouldn't crack, splinter or break the nail. The only times I've seen this as a problem is on a dog (or cat) with extremely long nails, usually older dogs that don't get around as well and their nails are brittle.

Here are my thoughts: If an owner is willing to take the bull by the horns (or dog by the paws) then I applaud their actions. The nails have to be cut, and if you can find a way to do it yourself and feel comfortable, I'm proud of you! Most people are just too scared to make their dog bleed, and that is a normal fear. If Pedi Paws works for you and you are empowered by it, use it!!

I will not be purchasing one however. In past years I have thought about getting a dremel, but never have. There are not enough pros to the cons for me - time and safety being my major cons.

There you go, my 2 cents. Now aren't you glad you asked??? no? I don't blame you.

Exercise on pavement or cement. When moving quickly on this surface it naturally wears their nails down like a file (also when you go with them, it naturally wears down your waist line!)

When you hear the click click click or they start biting their own nails, take them down to your local groomer or vet. For usually around $10 (that's our price) you can have their pedicure done while you wait!

This is Jimmy, he's one of our customers!

On August 16th his Mom and Dad (Stephanie and Christian Nielson) were in a plane crash in eastern Arizona. There were three aboard the plane, Christian's flight instructor was killed due to injuries from the crash and fire.

Christian Nielson, a licensed pilot, and his wife Stephanie Nielson, are in critical condition at the Arizona Burn Center at Maricopa Medical Center. According to family members, Stephanie has burns over 80 percent of her body; her husband is burned over 30 percent of his. They have 4 small children who are lucky enough to be with Aunts and Uncles who will take care of them as though they were their own. Channel 3 covered the story, you can click here to see it. I got to know Stephanie through her blog http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/ and was always amazed at what an inspiring person she is!

Our thoughts and prayers are with them, their children and their families. As friends we have felt helpless as to what we can do to help them. The family has let us know that their medical bills are going to be tremendous (in the millions). A friend of Stephanie's has suggested doing a silent auction for them to raise funds for their bills and the children's household expenses through this time. What a great idea!

With visions of finding permanent, responsible homes for pets dancing in our heads, we at the Arizona Humane Society are launching our Homes for the Holidays adoption special.
Adoption fees during Homes for the Holidays have been reduced on all cats, kittens, puppies, dogs, rabbits and ferrets. Prospective adopters must still qualify in advance; and, consistent with longstanding organizational policy, AHS adoption counselors will not allow the adoption of “pets as gifts” for someone other than the adopter.
“Our goal is to find the best possible, most responsible, loving and caring homes for the pets in our shelters this holiday season,” said AHS spokeswoman Kim Noetzel. “This adoption special caters to pet lovers who’ve been thinking about getting a dog, cat or critter and are now prepared to make a lifetime commitment to a pet in need.”

Homes for the Holidays begins November 13 and continues through December 31, 2007, at both AHS shelters in Phoenix and the AHS off-site adoption center inside the Deer Valley PetSmart store in northwest Phoenix.

Fees are: $25 for all cats, kittens, rabbits and ferrets and $50 for all dogs and puppies. Thanks to the “Twice as Nice” discount, qualifying adopters will receive 50% off the adoption of a second pet if the second pet is adopted within 30 days of the first. All cats, kittens, puppies, dogs and rabbits are spayed or neutered. Dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are vaccinated as well. And, pets adopted from the AHS receive a free, follow-up veterinary exam. All cat and kitten adoption fees reduced to just $25; plus, adopters can take home a second cat or kitten half price!
Cat fanciers can fall in love with a new feline, or two, during the Arizona Humane Society’s Fall Feline Festival. The cat-and-kitten adoption special continues through October 31st at all AHS adoption centers in the Valley.

“We have dozens of wonderful cats and kittens awaiting adoption – more so than usual for this time of year,” said Kim Noetzel, AHS spokeswoman. “We’re hopeful that this adoption promotion will encourage cat lovers to visit one of our shelters now if they are ready to make a lifetime commitment to a pet.”

Helmsley left her beloved white Maltese, named Trouble, a $12 million trust fund, according to her will, which was made public Tuesday in surrogate court.
She also left millions for her brother, Alvin Rosenthal, who was named to care for Trouble in her absence, and two of four grandchildren from her late son Jay Panzirer. If those two grandchildren don't visit their father's grave site at least once a year, she wrote, they will lose half of the $10 million she left for each of them.
Helmsley left nothing to two of Jay Panzirer's other children — Craig and Meegan Panzirer — for "reasons that are known to them," she wrote.
But no one made out better than Trouble, who once appeared in ads for the Helmsley Hotels, and lived up to her name by biting a housekeeper.
"I direct that when my dog, Trouble, dies, her remains shall be buried next to my remains in the Helmsley mausoleum," Helmsley wrote in her will.
The mausoleum, she ordered, must be "washed or steam-cleaned at least once a year." She left behind $3 million for the upkeep of her final resting place in Westchester County, where she is buried with her husband, Harry Helmsley.
She also left her chauffeur, Nicholas Celea, $100,000.
She ordered that cash from sales of the Helmsley's residences and belongings, reported to be worth billions, be sold and that the money be given to the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
Her longtime spokesman, Howard Rubenstein, had no comment.
Helmsley died earlier this month at her Connecticut home. She became known as a symbol of 1980s greed and earned the nickname "the Queen of Mean" after her 1988 indictment and subsequent conviction for tax evasion. One employee had quoted her as snarling, "Only the little people pay taxes."

I thought it would never happen but we finally got the website in FULL published to the web. I underestimated the the difficulty!!! I hope you will find it helpful.

For those who know Marian had eye surgery a week and a half ago, she is healing nicely and "SHOULD" be back next week! Yeah! We sure have missed her.

Why am I posting in the middle of a Friday you might be wondering? Well I think you are all out of town on vacation, or getting your kid's school clothes. We didn't have any appointments for today, I'm guessing there will be a rush of dogs once the kids are back sitting in their classrooms.

I am. Boy are my arms tired!
We are exhausted!!
Our friend Buddy was in today and looking beautiful! Granted Buddy is in almost every month so he never looks bad, but boy was he shinning today!

Since it got so hot the dogs have been blowing their coats kind of inconsistantly. Buddy is a good example of a dog that has a lot of coat but doesn't stick to the 2 seasons (spring and fall) to blow their undercoat. We got A TON of undercoat out of him, and I have the sore muscles to prove it!

Even though we have fantastic shampoo, conditioner, and blow dryers - THERE IS NOTHING THAT TAKES THE PLACE OF BRUSHING! Buddy is used to getting brushed daily by his parents, but when y;ou mix it with a bath and blow dry -You get a FUR-STORM!!!

The award for spending the largest amount of money at the vet in the shortest amount of time goes to Spring's Mom and Dad!!

I just heard that on Monday Spring decided it sounded appetizing to eat half of a WIRE BBQ cleaning brush. The bristles could be compared to metal staples! To say the least she got very sick and had emergency surgery.

GET WELL MY LITTLE REDHEAD!

Let this be a reminder that seemingly innocent things can be dangerous to our pets. Granted, the brush was in the BBQ grill cabinet, but she's a Golden and something like doors aren't going to get in a determined woman's way!

A few years ago I came home to 2 very sick dogs because they got into my Costco size bottle of Ibuprofen. I had left that bottle on the counter as long as I could remember, but one day they decided to chew it open. Several thousand dollars later, and two very sick dogs, I learned my lesson about medicine.

I guess we should not only "baby-proof" our homes but remember that we have babies with big teeth and strong jaws.

Aug 4 update: Spring was in for a grooming today, and was back to her old self!! HOWEVER: Surgery left her with a funky poodle/lion mix hair cut that couldn't be fixed with even the most creative comb-over. If anyone knows how to put extensions on a dog, please let me know!!!
